Honorable Mentions: Rectify, House of Cards, Penny Dreadful, Silicon Valley, Halt and Catch Fire
Dishonorable Mentions: True Detective, Suits, How to Get Away with Murder, any show from The CW
10. Bojack Horseman
Season 2 sees Bojack pursue a relationship with Wanda Pierce and continue to shoot his dream film “Secretariat” but as expected things don't go smoothly. Bojack Horseman continues to be one of the most well rounded shows on TV balancing drama, wackiness and dark humor. With season 3 on the horizon we expect big things from Bojack and company.
9. Daredevil
Netflix’s Daredevil is probably the slickest adaptation of any Marvel comic, unlike many of the Marvel adaptations Daredevil is dark and gritty. The performances of Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin and Charlie Cox as Daredevil stands out with many believing that Onofrio’s portrayal of Kingpin might be the best portrayal of a Marvel villain on screen.
8. Homeland
8. Homeland
Many believed that after ***** died this show would jump the shark, but it’s proving doubters wrong. Season 5 pits Carry into Germany as she tries to juggle her personal life and “Carrie” life. Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin continue to give masterful performances. With season 6 already announced you have to wonder though, how long will this freaking series last?
7. Red Oaks
7. Red Oaks
Amazon’s new comedy set in the 80s about a young tennis instructor working at a resort club with his friends came out of left field and hooked in audiences. With charming characters and relatable story, Red Oaks is a strong addition to Amazon’s growing lineup. Here’s hoping that it gets renewed for another season.
6. The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst
Another surprise hit, Andrew Jarecki’s The Jinx examines the life of Robert Durst (trying to come up with a sentence to describe this guy but nothing came up) as he tries narrate the tragedies that happened in his life. Watching the Jinx is like slowly opening an unwanted present, you kinda know what’s inside, but you’re still shocked once you see it actually there.
Yes, Better Call Saul lived up to the hype and maybe surpassed it. Clearly a different animal from it’s big brother Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul thrives through dark humor and the performances of Jonathan Banks and Bob Odenkirk. Mike Ehrmantraut’s flashback episode is easily one of the best TV episodes of 2015.
5. Better Call Saul
4. You're The Worst
Season 2 finds Gretchen afflicted with depression, Jimmy obsessing over NCIS ,lindsay trying to pick up the pieces of her life after her failed marriage and Edgar pursuing an Improv Hobby. But Gretchen’s battle with depression takes center stage, Aya Cash nails her portrayal of a person suffering from depression. You’re the worst continues to be edgy and different from other sitcoms good news for fans: it got renewed for another season.
3. Transparent
2. Rick And Morty
Rick and Morty surpassed everyone’s expectations. After a solid first season, it managed to transform itself into another kind of show, it still has gut wrenching moments of laughter but the creators have added another dimension which makes it one of the best shows on TV. Watch out for the episodes “Total Rickall” and “The Wedding Squanchers”1. Fargo
When True Detective’s second season bombed a lot of people got worried that Fargo would follow the same route, Fargo did not follow the route, it went the opposite direction. Fargo’s second season will make you speechless and keep you at the edge of your seat thanks to its stellar cast and masterful storytelling. It’s quirky, dark, funny and oozing with style (It’s the only show that uses “First while” than “previously" on it’s recaps). Here is hoping that season 3 would be just as good.
